Comunidades rurales, ecologistas, artistas, mujeres y defensores de los Derechos Humanos, reafirmaron el viernes 13 de octubre, su compromiso de seguir luchando contra el extractivismo minero, enfatizando respeto y justicia a las comunidades de Río Blanco, en la provincia de Azuay, Ecuador. Ya que el pasado 8 y 9 de octubre, los habitantes sufrieron amenazas y ataques, por miembros de la seguridad de la empresa minera Ecuagoldmining, la cual llegaron a casa de algunos moradores de Río Blanco, donde la comunidad se mantiene en alerta ante la construcción de obras civiles para la explotación de oro y cobre.

Los moradores exigen que la empresa extractiva se retire de sus territorios, ya que estas operaciones van a afectar el Parque Nacional de El Cajas, su cultura y soberanía alimentaría. Igualmente, las delegaciones solidarias que hicieron acto de presencia, exigen también el cese de las agresiones y hostigamiento a los moradores de Río Blanco. Solicitando de igual forma, que el Estado Ecuatoriano, realicé las investigaciones y toma de medidas para evitar hechos lamentables.

Escuche declaraciones de Luis Sánchez Zhiminaycela de la nacionalidad Kichwa Kañari, representante de la delegación solidaria:

“Rural communities, ecologists, artists, women and human rights defenders reaffirmed on Friday October 13 their commitment to continue fighting against mega-mining projects in Ecuador. The group emphasized respect and justice for the community of Río Blanco in the southern province of Azuay, where inhabitants reported being threatened and attacked by the security forces of the mining company Ecuagoldmining. The security forces allegedly entered the community on October 8 and 9, and approached the homes of several residents. The community of Río Blanco remains on high alert for construction projects related to local gold and copper extraction.

Residents demand that the extraction company withdraw from their territories, as these operations will affect the National Park of El Cajas, as well as its culture and food sovereignty. The solidarity delegations that made an appearance, also demand the cessation of aggression and harassment of the residents of Río Blanco. They also request that the Ecuadorian State carry out investigations and take appropriate measures to avoid these deplorable acts.”
